My All American’s plot is one you can see coming from a mile away. Ten miles away. But that doesn’t stop it from hitting the right emotional cords that all good sports movies do. The acting is the films strongest attribute; Aaron Eckhart and Finn Wittrock carry the film, especially Wittrock. After this and his role on last season’s American Horror Story, he’ll most definitely find more roles in the near future. And like I said, the plot is predictable and melodramatic, but not overly so. The audience I saw it with loved it (probably biased, given that it was the “world premiere” of the film outside of test audiences), but I’m usually tough on these movies. And while it was a little rough at first, it founds its footing and ends strong. It’s a solid little film when it’s all said and done.
Also, the director is a *really* nice guy.
