The story kicks off with Leopold Duke of Albany(played by Jackman using British accent which is very good btw)who is staying in New York City in the year 1876. He of course is implemented and of course has to find a wife to marry. So his uncle wants to arrange a marriage for him with a woman named Miss Tree(Kristen Schaal)and he shall announce by midnight. But Leopold spots a mysterious man named Stuart Bessar(Liev Schivber)who happens to be Leopold’s great grandson. So when Leopold chases after Stuart he falls off the Brooklyn Bridge and ends up in our world (Modern day New York City) in 2001.
Later we meet a cynical marketing executive called Kate McKay(played by Meg Ryan)who happens to be Stuarts ex girlfriend. She of course has no time for me and her boss J.J(Bradley Whitford)has the hots for her and she of course has no time for him either. But when she meets Leopold for the first time after getting her palm pilot and with Stuart out of the picture(as Stuart falls down the elevator shaft and is gone from the plot for a very long time since Leopold is the inventor of elevators)romance blossoms between Leopold and Kate. But with their time difference drifting them apart can they ever get together?
We later meet Charlie(Breckin Meyers)who happens to be an actor and comes home from his acting camp. He gets on so well when he meets Leopold and Leopold helps Charlie win Patrice over(who is a girl that Charlie has a thing for). After that Leopold also helps Kate loosen up a bit. He saves her purse from a thug in Central Park,he sweeps her off her feet with a romantic candlelight dinner, and of course he even tries to propose to Kate while the two were listening to Moon River from Breakfast At Tiffanys. But Leopold does however know that he has to go back to 1876 or the future will change and Stuart won’t exist or elevators(depending on what version you seen this film in for me I saw both and preferred the original any day).
Of course Kate realizes that she loves Leopold and what does she do,well gives up her job as a senior vice president, jumps off the Brooklyn Bridge and marries Leopold in the end.
Overall I actually loved this movie. Why well for starters Hugh Jackman cracks me up in this movie and the guy is very attractive, the music was nice,I liked Meg Ryan as a kid and the story to its credit is silly but I liked it all the same.
Bottom line if you love fairytales and Hugh Jackman and Meg Ryan and you wanna see a feel good film then check it out.
