Although the first entry in the Scooby-Doo series was a box office hit, it just wasn't a very good film in the slightest, so general expectations coming into this sequel, which has the same creative team, were extremely low at best. Adding to these apprehensions, sequels are almost always inferior to their predecessors, usually trying too hard to recapture the magic that made the first so appealing, and by overplaying their hands, the balance is out of whack, and the ...

A filthy-rich fantasy for these cash-strapped times, “Beverly Hills Chihuahua” features the voices of Drew Barrymore and much of the industry’s top Latino talent in a live-action talking-dog lark that should please young pups. Filled with Smurf wholesomeness, Smurf puns and posi-Smurf messages about never giving up “on family,” “The Smurfs 2” still sucks Smurfberries. Gargamel the Smurf-hater is now a big shot magician, filling venues around ...

The Smurfs is one of the safest, non-offending children’s films I have seen in a long, long time. It hardly evokes a reaction due to the fact it doesn’t even try to evoke a reaction. Outside of a couple of funny one-liners, a bit of fun had with Hank Azaria as Gargamel and the annoying “la, la, la, la, la, la” of the little CG Smurfs, there’s nothing to takeaway. Utilizing the narrative last used by Disney’s Enchanted, we begin in ...
